Invictus, its not even a very big word, but oh my God how big is the heart that beats under its name.
If any one can watch and not be inspired than frankly you're already dead. It serves as so many good things to hang our hat on, honour, gallantry, will, the list goes on and on there are not enough words to describe all the good things about Invictus but it isn't as new as we might like to think. Let me explain.
After the Great war (14-18) there were many disabled athletes, thousands and thousands of them all over the world. In general unless their families looked after them times were tough, work was scarce and food on the table wasn't free, despite what we might like to think.
But some organisations were determined to help, as indeed were some captains of industry. Coal mine owners tried to employ the broken bodies and minds of the men who had left the pits so strong and able. The work was often simple and in some cases probably didn't even need doing but not all mill owners and pit bosses were as unsympathetic as history might tell us. The men who were shattered by war were as determined to win as todays wounded and broken military. The prothetic limbs were so far away from what we have today as to be unrecognisable but they made them work.
I struggle to watch Invictus, not because of any other reason but the tears fill my eyes as the pride fills my heart, it was no different in 1918 and I am sure the tears would have been just as free then as well. The truth is I am not worthy, no man (or woman) knows how they will react to a life changing injury but I'm damn sure I wouldn't be as good as these guys, one word springs to mind. RESPECT..
So now I have your heads nodding in agreement, a joke: Dont blame me I only steal them
A frustrated wife buys a pair of crotchless panties in an attempt to spice up her sex life. She puts them on, together with a short skirt and sits on the sofa opposite her husband.
At strategic moments she uncrosses her legs... enough times that her husband finally asks "Are you wearing crotchless panties?"
"Yes..." she answers with a seductive smile.
"Thank God - I thought you were sitting on the cat".
Stay safe, and buy a book maybe for a friend this time eh,
